Tinubu
Senate Minority Leader and front runner for the position of Senate President, Senator George Akume, has debunked stories making the rounds that he met with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in furtherance of his ambition to become the next Senate president, denying also that he was in the race for the position as he has been busy attending to pressing national issues.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mrs. Beckie Orpin, Akume said he did not meet with Tinubu on Tuesday but attended the 8th National Assembly retreat and later held meetings with his colleagues in Abuja.
He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Akume along with other senators-elect received the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, at the ongoing 8th National Assembly retreat at the International Conference Centre, Abuja in the morning of April 29.
“The Senate minority leader later held other meetings with colleagues up till the early hours of Thursday. The Senate minority leader is not pre-occupied with positions for now but rather, he is conferring with his colleagues on the need to work for the betterment of the lives of the good people of Nigeria and to have a vibrant National Assembly.”
