NEMA Donates Relief Supplies To Yobe Victims Freed By Boko Haram
Son of ex-Adamawa State governor, Senator Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako, who chairs the Senate committee on special duties has handed a six-week ultiamatum to the National Refugee Commission and the National Emergency Management Commission, NEMA, to collaborate, and marshall out plans that will start the process of resettling internally displaced persons and refugees in line with the federal government’s resettlement policy for 2016.
The lawmaker, who spoke yesterday at a meeting with the two agencies at the National Assembly, said it was very necessary for them to come together and develop a plan that will assist the federal government’s resettlement plan of the IDPs and refugees this year.
He pointed out that the IDPs have over stayed in various camps beyond expectation and need to go home, adding that there was remarkable achievement in some states by the military in curbing the security challenges with peace returning to those areas, therefore the IDPs need to go back.
Nyako stressed that the timeline given will enable the committee know the cost effect of the rehabilitation, and also address some bottlenecks ahead, and have an accurate figure of those that will be returning home.
The federal high commissioner of National Refugees Commission, Hajia Hadiza Sani Kengiwa had earlier stated that her commission already has a short, medium and long term plans for the IDPs and the refugees.
This was as the representative of NEMA, Mr Daniel Obot said the agency is yet to have a plan for the internally displaced persons.
