The Senate Committee on Youths and Sports, has called for the National Stadium in Lagos to be privatised if the Ministry of Sports is not ready to reactivate its operations.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Obinna Ogba, made this know when the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Chinyeaka Ohaa, appeared before it to defend their 2016 budget appropriation.

Senator Ogba, who was not happy with the absence of the Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, charged the ministry not to allow the facility to waste.

He said: “Allowing that huge amount of money to be wasting is not good for us; it is not good for the country.

“Instead of allowing it to waste like that, it is better that we privatise it. That is what I have said about the National Stadium Lagos.

“Go and check the year it was built, National Stadium in Lagos was built in 1972 or thereabout, the same with that of Munich and up till today they are still making use of that stadium in Munich. Why can’t we make use of our own here?”
