Senate begins investigation of attempted arrest of NIA, DSS former boss

Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating attempted arrest of former National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke and the former Director, Department of State Security Services (DSS), Ita Ekpenyong by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) began sitting on Tuesday in Abuja.

The investigation which held behind closed doors was shielded away from the prying eyes of journalists with a stern warning to all Senators who are members of the Committee not to devulge informations that emanated from the discussions, DAILY POST learnt.

The meeting, which has been scheduled at different dates had the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno meet with the Committee on day one.

The NSA, who coordinates all security intelligence agencies was expected to explain his role in the episode which was seen by the Senate as an embarrassment to the nation.

Sources closed to the Committee told DAILY POST that the acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Mustapha Magu would personally appear to explain his role in the attempted arrest of the NIA. former boss.

It was not clear as of the time of this report if the duo,n former NIA and DSS bosses, who were sacked over $45 million Ikoyi scandal would appear first before the EFCC, but it has been confirmed that all parties shall not appear simultaneously before the panel.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission who were armed with arrest warrant had stormed on the residence of former DSS boss, Ita Ekpenyong on No. 46, Mamman Nasir area of Asokoro, in early hours of 22nd November, 2017 but were resisted by DSS operatives.

The same episode played out when EFCC operatives were to arrest Ayodele Oke, former NIA boss.
