Senate on Tuesday begins confirmation of Ministerial nominees against its tradition of ‘bow and go’ for those who have served in legislative capacity before their nomination for ministerial appointment.
Leading the motion, at the plenary is the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume who says: “That the Senate do consider the request of Mr President, Commander-In-Chief for the confirmation of the following nominees for appointments as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in accordance with Section 147 (2) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended,” he submitted.
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma a lawyer who served in 2nd and 3rd Senate was the first to face rigorous screening.
This is, however, not without shouts condemning a question put to him by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu on the feeling that he is of the PDP.
Second on the list in an ongoing confirmation are Dr John Kayode Fayemi who has just been screened.
The next will be:
Chief Audu Ogbe Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu Dr Osagie Ehanire Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazzau Alhaji Lai Mohammed Amina Ibrahim Mohammed Engr. Suleiman Hussain Adamu Mr Ibrahim Usman Jibril
On the Order Paper which is the official agenda of business of Senate shows that the Senate could only confirms 10 nominees out of 21 of the first batch forwarded to it by President Muhammadu Buhari last month today.
