Senate adopts legislative agenda

Senate on Tuesday adopted a legislative agenda, an official document that will guide the activities of the Senate.

Addressing a press conference at the National Assembly in Abuja, Senate Spokesman, Sabi Abdullahi noted that they understood the dynamic nature of the economy, hence, the legislative agenda would guide all the exercises of the Senate towards providing an atmosphere for good governance and by so doing, the Senate will be flexible, friendly and accessible in all ramifications.

“The 8th Senate in its commitment to providing an atmosphere of good governance would be guided by a list of legislative agenda and they will be flexible and friendly,” he said.

According to him, “Those things that are priority to the nation as they emerge will be addressed through legislation so as to legitimize whatever it is.”

He added that such step will not undermine the Senate agenda, but stressed that they are all geared towards making the country great which is the core vision of the APC-administration.

He also announced that some committees would be inaugurated tomorrow. He said the committees will include:

Banking and Finance Committee

Justice Committee

Appropriation Committee Intelligence Committee Finance Committee Communication Committee

Highlighting on the budget for 2016, he explained that the Senate was already set to receive the budget and begin deliberating on it, adding that when it comes, it has to go through administrative processes.

“All the relevant committees that will study the budget once it comes will be inaugurated tomorrow and when it eventually comes, it has to first and foremost undergo administrative processes,” Abdullahi noted.
