The Senate Tuesday observed a minute silence and subsequently adjourned all legislative duties to Wednesday, March 21, in honour of Senator Ali Wakili who died Saturday, March 17.
It also resolved to hold valedictory speech for him tomorrow and enjoined all Senators to be present.
This resolution came after the upper chamber adopted its votes and proceedings of Thursday last week.
Until his death, Wakili was representing Bauchi South senatorial district of Bauchi State.
Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawal rose under order 43, with the prayer that all the items contained in the order paper of Monday be stood down in honour of late Senator Ali Wakili who died last Saturday morning in line with the Senate tradition.
He said, “I rise to ask that all items contained in today’s order paper be stood down in honour of our dead friend, brother and colleague, senator Ali Wakili who suddenly died last Saturday.
“It was a sad development not only to the Senate but his senatorial district which he represented very well and Nigeria as a whole.
“In line with our culture and tradition, it’s proper for us to observe a minute silence and adjourn all parliamentary duties.
In confirmation of the the majority approval, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, hit the gavel in compliance and the senate accordingly adjourned.
