Senator Sabi Abdullahi (APC Niger North), has denied that the All Progressives Congress (APC), imposed the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, on the APC Senators-elect as the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.
Abdullahi, who is also Chairman of Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, stated this while speaking to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He accused the former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, of lying by saying Lawan was imposed on APC Senators-elect by the party leadership, at a dinner hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday evening.
The Senator, who is the spokesman of Ahmad Lawan for 9th Senate President group, declared “it is not good for people to peddle lies and being economical with the truth”.
According to him, “what actually transpired at the dinner attended by the party’s national working committee members including governors of Kebbi and Oyo states was that the party introduced Lawan and canvassed support for him to emerge as next Senate President.
“The brief introduction of Lawan was followed by instantaneous and spontaneous applause from most of the Senators-elect present. So where is the imposition?”
