Vice President, Nnamadi Sambo
The high expectation of Maiduguri residents over the visit of the Vice President, Nnamadi Sambo to the state has been partially dashed as the heavy security presence and restriction of movement in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital has scared off many residents, who would have naturally wished to wave the Nigerian flag as the vice president arrived the state capital today.
Namadi who landed at the Maiduguri International Airport at about 11:25 am was received into the capital city amid tight security.
At the airport, security officials of the SSS who manhandled journalists said the Vice President’s visit does not required coverage from the local media as he has his own crew to do the job.
Also speaking with some residents on the Vice President’s visit, newsmen were told that the visit of Nigeria’s second citizen was a bad business day for the common man, who has been denied the right to earn a living from his or her daily sales.
“This is a sad day for me. The security has blocked all the road and there is no business going on.” A 65 years old charcoal seller told reporters.
He also said, “this day is not like the good old days when Sardauna, Azikiwe and Tafawa Balewa are eager to meet the people. This one we were asked to leave our businesses and we stood at a distance watching as he came and left.”
