Security operatives foil kidnap operation in Delta, kill one


A member of five-man kidnapping syndicate which abducted the proprietor of Derag Eateries, Ozoro, Delta State, Mr Bamidele Daudu, has been shot dead by a joint team of soldiers and the police.

The kidnappers had on Monday stormed his Daudu residence along Kwale road and whisked him away in his SUV.

Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Public Spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, said: “On receipt of information about the incident, a combined team of policemen and soldiers quickly mobilized and gave the hoodlums a hot pursuit, and in the ensuing gun duel, one of the kidnappers yet to be identified, was gunned down, while others escaped with bullet wounds into the bush.”

Kalu added that the victim was subsequently rescued unhurt.

The state police spokesperson noted that the joint team recovered the following items from the kidnappers; the victim’s Nissan Tera Jeep, one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun and one live cartridge.

Kalu further stated that efforts were on to roundup other members of the syndicate who are currently on the run.
