Security in the North has improved – Governor Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu had on Wednesday called on all Nigerians to join hands in order to ensure that peace returns to the Northern.

He said that security situation had improved in the crisis-ridden part of the country.

The Governor made this known in Minna, Niger State when he received some members of the Arewa Transformation Support Initiative, who paid him a courtesy visit.

Aliyu said, “Things are calming down now in the region, but we are not out of the woods yet. Everyone should work towards a permanent solution to the security situation in the north and the country. I have noticed that security in the north has improved.”

According to him, the best way to achieve a permanent peace in the north, and other parts of the country, governments should make the teaching of the tenets of Islamic and Christian religions compulsory in schools.

He believes that if members of the Boko Haram sect were knowledgeable in Islamic religion, they would not take any man’s life because Islam says there is no compulsion in religion.

Noting that ignorance was another cause of the crisis in some parts of the country, the Governor urged parents to pay more attention to the education of their children.

He also called for purposeful engagement of youth to discourage them from vices capable of undermining the country’s security.

Earlier in his address, President of the Arewa Transformation Support Initiative, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma, said the current situation in the North had made the group to set up a data bank of the unemployed youth with a view to solving unemployment in the region.

He said the objective of the forum was to transform youth in the region.
