Two security guards appeared before a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court on Wednesday over alleged stealing of two industrial air conditioners and five hundred pieces of iron pipes valued at N1.54 million from a construction company.
The defendants, Felix Audu, 21, and Peter Dagba, 19, are charged with two counts of joint act and theft of which they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Nyam Simon, attached to the Global Security Guards, Idu yard, Abuja, reported the matter at Karmo Police Station on July 17.
Ukagha told the court that, “the defendants were employed as security guards and were posted to the CCECC Company, Idu yard, Abuja to secure the property of the company.”
The prosecutor alleged that, “Audu and Dagba formed a criminal intention and stole two industrial air condition and five hundred pieces of iron pipe valued N1.54 million.”
She, however, added that, during police investigations, ”the defendants confessed that they sold the items to one Hussaini of Angwan Rogo.”
The offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 289 of the Penal Code, NAN reports.
The area court judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N1.5 million with one surety in like sum.
Maiwada, ordered that the surety must not be below GL09 in the Civil Service.
