Security guard in court over theft of tools worth N3.8m

A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Thursday, remanded a security guard over stealing of printing machine parts worth N3.8 million.

Harrison Lar, who resides at Ketu area of Lagos, was charged with two-count of conspiracy and stealing of printing machine parts that was put in his care. He, however, pleaded guilty as charged.

Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere ordered that Lar, 47, be kept at the Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, pending the review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in April, at Bailey Street in Shomolu area of Yaba, Lagos.

Olaluwoye, however, added that, “Mr Olusegun Oladogba, bought a Heidelberg speed printing machine and contracted a security company to protect the machine pending when he would install it.

”She said that the defendant, who was posted by the security company to protect the machine, stole the machine parts and a 15amps electrical appliance valued at N5,000.

“My Lord, during investigation, the defendant confessed to the theft of the machine parts and sold them.

“They were not stolen in a day, it was over a period of four weeks; we are, however, yet to recover them.”

She said that the offences contravened Sections 412 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011, NAN reports.

The case was adjourned until July 31.
