Security guard arraigned for stealing female handbag


A security guard, identified as Mohammed Sadiq, was on Thursday arraigned by the Police before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrate Court in Abuja for allege theft of a female handbag.

The suspect, who works at the National Mosque, allegedly dispossessed his victim of her bag which contained items worth N220, 000.

According to Gideon Ekomson, the police prosecutor, while testifying before the court, said one Ms Ngozi Ugochukwu of Jabi, Abuja on March 20 reported a case of robbery at the Wuse Police Station.

Ekomson said that Sadiq, who resides in the complainant’s neighborhood, on the said day at about 8.30 in the evening, dispossessed her of her handbag with her personal belongings.

The prosecutor listed the items in the bag to include an I-phone and ATM cards among others, worth N220, 000.

He said the offence runs contrary to Section 387 of the Penal Code Law of the Northern Nigeria.

Sadiq however pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him.

Consequently, the Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Shafa granted Sadiq bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in the like sum, adding that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Shafa however adjourned the case till May 5.
