Security agents killed 48 unarmed youths in Anambra – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has alleged that security operatives killed 48 persons during yesterday’s rally to mark the declaration of the Republic of Biafra. It however expressed its determination towards the struggle for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra, despite the several killing of those sympathetic to the struggle.

In a statement signed by its spokespersons, Emma Mmezu and Clifford Iroanya, the group vowed to go back to drawing board to reconsider its continuation of the non-violent struggle as it accused security agents of deliberately shooting at agitators who were celebrating the 50th year of the Biafra struggle.

The statement reads, “Beginning at 1.30am Monday 30th May, Brutal repression, was ordered on unarmed youths at St Edmund’s Church Compound, Nkpor, Anambra State, 23 were gunned down before dawn.

“Onitsha bridge was blocked by the same military goons, to stop our people from Delta and beyond from linking up with the crowd in Anambra. 16 were gunned down there. All around Onitsha and environs, brutal crackdown ensued all over the town, before noon, another 9 souls were destroyed.

“Totaling 48 lives in all, over a hundred, injured some with live threatening gunshot wounds and hundreds captured and driven away.

“As the blood thirsty soldiers jubilate over their destruction of innocent lives and Pharaoh grinning with satisfaction, the land is aghast, with shock, sorrow and indescribable pain in their hearts.

“As the authorities churn out infantile lies about policemen being attacked (lies only the Govt. owned news agency spewed), in order to paint us black in their weak attempt to incite the public against us, we wonder why they believe that the public are so naive and gullible to believe such wild tales.

“The belief that cold blooded murders and spewing out falsehood to the public in order to justify this premeditated genocide, will eventually force us to love Nigeria, is actually idiotic.”

Accusing leaders of the South East of endorsing the massacre of those who have chosen to reckon with the Biafra struggle, IPOB said, “The conspiracy with political leaders to secretly endorse this mindless bloodletting by keeping quiet, cannot succeed in burying the truth.

“The truth is like seeds; it germinates when buried and grows into thick indestructible foliage.

“The blood of our brothers murdered in Onitsha and elsewhere on Monday will only germinate to a thick irrepressible forest of truth, valour and freedom.

“Those who are scared that the crumbling edifice of 36 unviable states, created by oppressive military cabals from one section of Nigeria, cannot survive displayed their fears that this house has fallen, to all, by their brutal killing of innocent unarmed youths, whose only crime is the prayer for freedom from this hostile prison. That freedom is inevitable; these senseless deaths are prize for freedom.

“Only insecure, weak and clueless despots resort to brutal killing of civilian populace. History attests, that insecure and weak despots, have never survived their assault on truth.

“In spite of the callous killing and conspiracy of silence by cowardly eastern leaders, who have been cowed into submission, by Pharaoh and his minions, we remain unbowed, undaunted and resolute.

“As we go back to drawing board to reconsider the continuation or otherwise of our non-violence credo, we assure those who came to power, only to sustain an unworkable structure, that the blood of our brothers, like the blood of Abel will continue to testify against them,” the statement read.
