Second stanza of National Anthem can unite Nigerians – NOA


The National Orientation Agency, NOA, has noted that religious neutrality of the second stanza of Nigeria’s National Anthem highlights its capacity in uniting the country in view of the sensitivity of religion in the country.

Disclosing this on Wednesday via its Twitter account, @NOA_Nigeria, the agency described the second stanza as an antidote to the age-long rivalry of religious way of praying at events in Nigeria since it does not pander to any religious inclination.

The tweets read, “Religion is a very sensitive issue in Nigeria, hence d need to initiate ways to bridge the gap. NOA has been promoting 2nd stanza as prayer.

“This 2nd stanza of Nigeria National Anthem has the potentials to further unite us as one nation as it is not religiously inclined.

“Read 2nd stanza of our National Anthem and you will be marvelled that it captures and recognises the superior being that we all worship.

“Adopting 2nd stanza of our National Anthem will erase age-long rivalry of religious way of praying at events in Nigeria.”

“The need to promote adoption of 2nd stanza of Nigeria National Anthem as opening prayer at events becomes imperative to hv a common prayer.”

The second stanza of the National Anthem reads thus:

Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause Guide our leaders right Help our youth the truth to know In love and honesty to grow And living just and true Great lofty heights attain To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.
