The Rivers State Police Command says it has deployed more men to Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state to quell an outbreak of violence in the area.
Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB had wreaked havoc in the area early Friday.
In what was meant to be a sit-at-home protest, the IPOB defied the presence of police to attack traders from Northern Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that 13 trucks driving into Port Harcourt through the Aba-Oyigbo road were burnt.
Other vehicles were also attacked with many left injured.
But spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni said only three trucks loaded with goods were burnt.
Omoni who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police said the trucks were attacked around Timber area of Oyigbo.
He added that, “The Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed ordered for reinforcement of our men to that area. As we speak, normalcy has returned.
“Contrary to media reports that over ten trucks were burnt, we have it on record that only three was touched.
“I can also tell you that we have arrested 19 suspects already. We don’t recognize IPOB because they have been proscribed by the laws of the land. Anything they do is illegal and we will make sure they don’t have any chance in Rivers State.”
IPOB declared a sit-at-home for all its members to mark the one-year disappearance of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
As at the time of filing this report, majority of the shops owned by Igbo traders in Port Harcourt are under lock and keys.
