SDP berates Gov. Ikpeazu over dilapidated health facilities in Abia

Hon. Chidi Nwosu, the Abia State chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has berated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government over the dilapidating state of health facilities in the state.

He tasked the government to increase the infrastructural development of the state, so as to make the citizenry enjoy dividends of democracy.

Nwosu decried the bad state of the Abia Teaching Hospital Aba, and the inability of the government to clear backlogs of salaries owed the staff of the teaching hospital, claiming that weeds had adorned the entire premises of the Abia hospital.

The SDP chairman, who made the party’s position known, while speaking in a radio programme, monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday morning in Umuahia, the state capital, explained that the present government had performed poorly in all sectors of the Abia economy since it took over the mantle of leadership.

According to Nwosu, “The governor has the responsibility to raise the confidence people have around him, and that could be attained, by critically looking at grey areas that the people are yearning for change. These include education, health, the State health sector is terribly bad. For instance, the apex body that should be a symbol of good health sector in Abia is nothing to write home about. The Abia Teaching Hospital, Aba.

“I went to the hospital few days ago, I wept. It was like a forest and everywhere was very unkempt. And if everywhere is unkempt, I have not seen any motivation that people around there should work. And I also carried out an investigation, and I understood that the staff of the Abia state Teaching Hospital are owed about ten to eleven months salaries.

The former Abia lawmaker added, “I can’t understand if we are looking at a place where health personnel should be raised particularly the medical doctors, who should transform the health problems in Abia state. And yet, such a place has no attention at all. If we also look at the cities in Abia, particularly the capital city Umuahia, I would want the governor to reform the city. Umuahia is not looking like a capital city, everybody thinks Umuahia is a glorified village. These are very important areas the PDP-led government in Abia should look at.

“Abians are looking forth to increased infrastructural development. Critically, most of the local government areas in Abia state, have not received even one kilometre of road since the last four years. And with the joint account of the state, where local government and state pull resources together, they should try as much as possible to engage all the LGs to have fair share of what is accruable to them”.
