Screening Committee disqualifies old PDP aspirants

Fresh crisis is looming between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State and the National leadership of the party over disqualification of all aspirants, who are old members.

They were reportedly disqualified last Friday by the State Assembly screening committee in Akure, the state capital.

DailyPost gathered that newly defected aspirants from Labour Party (LP) to PDP were all cleared by the committee.

However, the State Executives have urged its National Secretariat to send a fresh committee to screen aspirants into the State House of Assembly.

The Party noted with dismay the untoward events in the Party since Governor Olusegun Mimiko returned.

A statement signed by the party’s Director of Publicity, Ayo Fadaka said “We wish to inform the general public concerning the series of nefarious activities continually perpetrated and the anticipated consequence of such.

“The National Secretariat sent a Screening Committee to screen aspirants wishing to contest into the House of Assembly, no sooner did members of that Committee arrived the State, than Mimiko and his agents took them out of circulation and compromised them.

“As expected, their report disqualified all original members of the Party for sundry and untenable reasons which include the failure of an OND holder to supply his NYSC discharge certificate.

“Also, the appeal Committee came after the screening committee had been taken out of circulation with a view to ratifying the injustice it perpetrated.

“This attitude is cheap and designed to remove from contention all those who have contributed immensely to the growth of the Party to favour his cronies who decamped with him into the PDP.

“In view of this, we hereby call on the National Secretariat to cancel the reports of the two Committees and send fresh people to Ondo State to come and screen our aspirants in the interest of the Party”.
