Saraki receives ACN decampees, urges them to remain committed to PDP

Former Governor of Kwara State and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has received decampees from the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking during the event which took place at Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state, Saraki promised the new members that they would be accorded all the privileges enjoyed by older members of the PDP.

He said that opposition parties in the state were overwhelmed by the performance of the PDP government and have thus remained virtually non-existent except on the pages of newspapers.

He tasked them to spread the values and programmes of the PDP government across the state.

Earlier, the leader of the ACN decampees and Secretary, Muhammad Dele Belgore Forum, Abdulazeez Kasim, and the Woman Leader, Madam Titilayo Ojo, said the decampees were angered by the unfulfilled promises of the ACN and impressed by the purposefulness and developmental efforts of the PDP-led government in Kwara State.

According to Abdulazeez, the promise of the ACN gubernatorial candidate in the 2011 general election, Barrister Dele Belgore, SAN, to provide 2,000 jobs for ACN youths, regardless of the outcome of the election, has remained a mirage.

Observers say politicking for the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state has begun.

Speaking to DailyPost in Abuja, a businessman and close watcher of Kwara political scene, Engr. Deji Seriki, said more cross-carpeting will be witnessed in the coming months.

“I expect that members of one party or the other will switch in the time ahead. However, let me note that it is not about having new members swear allegiance to the ruling party. That will not translate into votes.”

“It is the work on ground that will speak, that is what the electorate see. Personally, I think the current administration must do more to win the confidence of the people,” he said.
