The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has mourned with families of 19 children who got drowned in a boat mishap over the weekend.
DAILY POST reports that 19 children drowned in a boat mishap on Saturday in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
It was learnt that the accident happened while the boat was conveying the victims across River Niger for a traditional wedding ceremony in a community in Niger.
The boat, conveying about 22 people mostly children, capsized while crossing the river.
Speaking on the incident, Saraki condoled with the families of the victims and prayed for the recovery of survivors.
The Senate President, on his Twitter page, wrote: “Today, my prayers go out to all the families affected by yesterday’s boat mishap at the Chewuru Ferry Port in Lafiagi, Kwara State.
“As the community pulls together in the wake of this awful tragedy, I pray for the quick recovery of all the survivors.”
