Saraki: Don’t set Nigeria on fire – Ethnic Nationalities’ Youth leaders caution FG

The leadership of ethnic nationalities’ youth groups have warned the Federal Government against persecution of the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

The group cautioned that any attempt to unlawfully impeach the Senate President could derail the country’s democratic process.

It also said that should Governor of Benue State be impeached by eight lawmakers, Nigeria would be set on fire.

The warning is coming amidst tension around the National Assembly over Saraki and Ortom’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the the APC, and some Senators in the party have already told Saraki to relinquish his position.

Speaking on the development, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Deputy chairman, Nigeria Ethnic nationalities Youth organizations, warned the political actors not to push the country into avoidable chaos.

Okechukwu said in a statement on Thursday that “any unlawful impeachment of the Senate President by a minority of the senators is capable of truncating the democracy we are enjoying since 1999.

“We warn that there should be respect among the Executive and the legislature.

“Nigeria Youths will occupy both the National assembly and the Presidential villa if there is a break down of law and order, emanating from any unlawful impeachment of the Senate President.”

The Youths asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who would take over as acting President, to call the leadership of his party, the APC, to order.

“We have observed that some crucial issues of insecurity have been ignored over defections; those trying to set Nigeria on fire by also trying to impeach Gov Ortom should be aware that the era of using few lawmakers to impeach a sitting Governor has gone and any attempt to remove Gov Ortom will set Nigeria on fire.

“We are using this medium to call on all Ethnic nationalities Youth Organizations to troupe en-mass to Benue to Protect Gov. Ortom and people of Benue state.

“Finally we are calling on Federal government to live up to its promises that this government belongs to ‘everybody’,” the group further stated.
