Sanogo wants to emulate Kanu, Ibrahimovic at Ajax

Yaya Sanogo has said he wants to emulate great Ajax strikers like Kanu Nwankwo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as he closes in on a season-loan move to the Dutch club from Arsenal.

The Frenchman spent half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace, but was left out of the Gunners’ squad to Singapore this week.

He is now in Holland, to complete his move to the former Eredivisie winners.

“I am very happy. Now I go to visit medical,” the 22-year-old told AT5.

“The manager from Amsterdam called me last week and said, ‘I want you to play for us, for Ajax.’

“I am very happy because I didn’t think a big club like Ajax wanted me so I have to work hard to play.

“I hope to score a lot of goals.”

Sanogo, who joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2013, also expressed his ambition in following in the footsteps of two of Ajax’s former strikers.

“My reference is Zlatan and Kanu — legends who played for Ajax,” he said.
