Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Ntufam Mba Ekpezu Ukweni has urged President Mohammed Buhari to take charge of his office and complete his campaign promises. Welcoming the President from his over 100 days out of the country for medical treatment, Ukweni said, “what we want him to do for the people, is to complete what he has started and do it more effectively.”
Speaking with DAILY POST on phone on Monday, Ukweni said, “we expect him to take charge of his office; fulfilled his campaign promises and constitutional responsibilities to Nigerians with a view to justifying why he was elected”.
On the hate speeches, he said, “as much as nobody is comfortable about hate speech, we should also realized the fact that we are operating a democracy and people have right to say what they want to say, there are already laws in place to check-mate what people should not say.”
“We have the law of defamation and we also have law that dealt with inciting people, there is no need duplicating our laws as if there was no such law in place, it doesn’t do well for us, there is law about somebody who said what is not proper.”
The SAN, however, said he was happy that President Buhari was back to the country, “I am happy that the President is back, it is an incomplete arrangement, the constitution was written to make arrangement for President and the Vice President. Both have their respective role to place, so absent of the President doesn’t mean well for the country.”
“The constitution itself knows why it makes provision for both the President and the Vice President. We wish him well and we are happy that he is back,” the SAN stated.
