The head of Chamber, Mba Ukweni and Associates, Ntufam Mba Ukweni, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has chastised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the outrageous amounts charged aspirants for the purchase of nomination forms.
Ukweni who spoke with DAILY POST on phone on Friday lamented the outrageous amounts each aspirant is made to pay for forms.
” From where will a youth get N45m to buy presidential nomination form or other millions to buy forms for other positions?
“It’s sad that APC is closing her doors for people with genuine intention to serve the people. As it is, it is only the contractors that work for APC that can purchase the forms.
“Even President Buhari has said that he had no money to buy the form given the amounts. If such could come from the highest political office holder, who would have?
Ukweni said anybody who purchases the form surely must look for ways and means to recoup his or her money.
He said, ”We are making nonsense of corruption.
“If a government that is talking about corruption could get itself into this, does it have the moral justification to claim that she is fighting corruption? No.
“I have said it before that this government is not fighting corruption and her intention is not to allow those with genuine intention to come and serve
He regretted that Nigeria pushed itself into this mess, and recalled that, “I still remember in those days when political parties were well organised, parties made things easy for members.
“Aspirants were made to spend less. Remember during President Shagari and Etiebet, things were not like this, politics was a good game, but today, it’s regrettable,” he stated.
He called on Nigerians to resist bad and corrupt government and make use of their PVC wisely. “We cannot continue this way. We must shine our eyes.”
