Sam Allardyce identifies better player in England’s 3-2 win over Spain

Former Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace manager, Sam Allardyce has identified Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Eric Dier as a better player than Barcelona star, Sergio Busquets, following England’s 3-2 win over Spain on Monday night in the UEFA Nations League encounter.

First half goals from Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford ensured victory for The Three Lions as second-half goals from Paco Alcacer and Sergio Ramos were not enough to clinch a point for the hosts at the Benito Villamarin Stadium in Sevilla.

“Busquets was out of sorts last night, and the praise for him has to be stopped because he’s no better or worse than Eric Dier for me,” Allardyce told TalkSPORT.

“Busquets breaks play up and passes it, he’s very intelligent.

“He’s not much more than that but gets a huge amount of praise for it – Dier does the same, but gets a lot of criticism for it. We laud Busquets as a genius, but when it’s our own, we criticise him. Dier was far better than Busquets last night.”

England currently occupies the second position with four points in the Group 4 log with Spain sitting on first position with six points.

Gareth Southgate’s men will now take on Croatia in their next game on November 18.
