Sallah: Traditional ruler of Agege plans competitions for youths

The traditional ruler of Agege community in Lagos, Oba Kamila Isiba, says he has planned competitions for youths in various endeavours to make the upcoming Muslim Sallah festival memorable.

Isiba said on Friday in Lagos that the ruling council of the community had planned to host a carnival and competitions in football, dance, music, fashion and a beauty pageant.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2015 Eid-El-Kabir celebration by Muslims across the world is scheduled for Oct. 24.

The traditional ruler told NAN in Lagos that the ongoing plans and activities were to make the celebration brilliant.

“The activities are to make the Sallah a fun-filled one for the youth and the residents of Agege Local Government Area.

“This will be the first of its kind and we are planning it big,’’ he said.

He said that the palace would be collaborating with the Agege Prestigious Guild and the Agege Local Government Council to organise the events.

According to him, the Chairman of the Guild, Mr Olubunmi Ogunji, will be in charge of the competitions among the youth, while the council will provide security and necessary support during the celebration.

The monarch said that there would be refreshment for guests, visitors and the youth during the activities.

He noted that gift items would be given to the winners of the competitions, while outstanding individuals and groups in leadership and community development would also be honoured.

The traditional ruler added that the gesture was to promote unity among the ethnic groups living within the community and foster relationship and cultural development.
