Sallah: Police extortion, others responsible for increase in prices of rams – Dealers

Barely one day to the Sallah Celebration in Nigeria ,Ram Sellers Association, Isoko Garage in Igbudu Market, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, August 30 stated that Police extortion on highways as well as the high rate of tax paid to Government were responsible for the increment in prices of rams and goats.

The Chairman, Ram Sellers Association, Isoko Garage in Warri, Shaibu Mohammed made the assertion in a chat with DAILY POST.

Mohammed stated that a ram which sold for N120,000 last year is now being sold at the rate of N180,000 while goats are being sold between N18-N22,000.

He stated that in spite of police extortion and high tax paid, patronage is very poor during this Sallah season.

” You pay for every ram at where you buy and you also pay tax to the Government of Niger before you cross to Nigeria. To transport one Ram from Niger to Nigeria is N4,000.”

“Police extortion is another one and it is very high. That is why rams are on the increase this sallah.”

“We pray God to solve this problem for us.”

Mohammed called on the Federal Government to prevail on the police and other security outfits to stop the extortion on highways to reduce the prices of goods in the market.

Reacting, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said,”I will draw the attention of the Area Commander to it. It is annoying that the activities of our men in that area is now responsible for the increment in sales of rams. This is preposterous, annoying and a negative report for me. We cannot dismiss it. Thank you.”
