Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi yesterday advocated for greater unity and religious tolerance in Nigeria as Muslim faithful celebrate Eid-Kabir.
The governor said there should be peace in the country to enable Muslim faithful celebrate this year’s Eid-Kabir.
He identified unity and religious tolerance as panacea to achieving peace and development in the country.
Umahi in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor described unity and religious tolerance “as sinequanon to achieving cohesion and peace in any country and called on Muslim faithful to preach peace as they celebrate this year’s Eid Kabir.”
He also used the occasion to preach for unity among all segments of Nigerian society, which he said “has been dangerously divided along religious, political and ethnic lines and called on all Muslim faithful to use the opportunity created by the celebration to preach for unity in the country.”
Umahi further cautioned against various salient and insipient divisive tendencies that had over the years fueled various agitations in the country and called for equity and justice in every part of the country irrespective of religious, political and ethnic lines.
Governor Umahi, however, reiterated the readiness of the governors of the South East zone to protect lives and property of every Nigerian, irrespective of tribe and assured Muslim faithful to adequate security as they mark their Eid Kabir.
