A sales representative, Akachukwu Uchegbu on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing items of clothing worth N8.5 million.
Uchegbu is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty, NAN reports.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2018 and 2019 from a shop belonging to Mr and Mrs Christian Udoh.
Uwadione added that Uchegbu, the defendant, allegedly stole a good number of items from his employee’s shop situated at No. 3, Alaba Okulaja St., Ago Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos.
”The items included: 933 pieces of shirt, 46 pieces of jeans, 1116 pieces of trousers, 140 pieces of ladies leggings, 1000 pieces of bum shorts and 260 pieces of gowns, 700 pieces of dresses, 471 pieces of polo top, all valued at N8.5 million”.
The prosecutor pointed out that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, granted the defendant bail of N1 million with two sureties each in like sum, adjourning the case until July 30.
