Saleh vs Adabah: Youths protests in Benue community

What could be tagged ‘brotherly war’ is currently brewing in Benue community following the inauguration of Hon. Hassan Anthony Saleh as the lawmaker representing Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo federal constituency in the 8th National Assembly.

In fact, some youths in the area see the emergence of Saleh as an imposition on them by the court.

According to them, the court’s verdict does not tally with the peoples’ wish, hence the call for Saleh’s removal.

Recall that Christian Adaba Abah emerged unopposed after he won the PDP primary last December and APC failed to field any candidate.

However, Saleh filed a case against Adabah over issue bothering on certificate forgery and the court nullified the latter’s election and subsequently declared the former winner.

Irked by the development, youths from the area took to the streets to protest what they described as imposition of the lawmaker on them.

Some constituents who aired their views with our reporter noted that the best thing the judge would have done was to ask PDP and INEC to conduct fresh elections within 90 days to allow the people chose who they really wanted to represent them in the House of Representatives.

According to therm, the dashing out of victory to Saleh without election by the people is an infringement on their constitutional right to elect their representative.

Others said Saleh failed to make any meaningful impact within his last eight years in the house.

Leader of the protest group, who gave his name as Kole told DAILY POST that since the court had succeeded in imposing Saleh on them, the lawmaker should remain in Abuja and never return home.

“Honestly, this is broad daylight robbery. Okay, you nullified Adaba’s victory and imposed someone the people have rejected on us? No, this is not possible. If you say Mad Lion is not qualified, then conduct fresh election within 90 days so that the people will choose who they want,” he said.

Another Friday Ujah said, “We want to tell the whole world that we don’t have a lawmaker in our constituency. Sale is not representing us; he is only representing the court that put him there. Let him remain there and never return home”.
