Sale of PVC is a sin, crime against humanity – Nsukka Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Fr Godfrey Onah, on Sunday cautioned Nigerians against sale of their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PCV) no matter the monetary offer.

The Bishop, therefore, charged them to use their PVCs to vote for candidate of their choice in Saturday presidential election and governorship poll on April 11.

He cautioned that “it’s a sin against God and crime against humanity if you sell your card, which is your power to exercise your civil responsibility of electing leaders for your country.

“I know as the presidential election will be on Saturday, some overzealous politicians may want to buy your PVC with money to enable them commit electoral fraud, say no to them”.

He advised youths to resist attempts by any candidates or their supporters to use them to cause violence or snatch ballots box, as politicians who engaged in such evil act were enemies of progress of democracy and the country.

“Politics is not a do or die affair, a politician who wants to win election by ‘hook or crook’ is not a child of God and cannot be a good leader.

“Parents should monitor activities of their children and wards during elections, so that their children will not become easy tools in the hands of overzealous and blood thirsty politicians.

“Politicians should for the interest of peace and unity of this county, play the game of politics according to rules”,he said.

Bishop Onah further stated that it would be impossible for the church to endorse a particular candidate since members of the church belonged to different political parties.

“Any politician who thinks the church will endorse him is deceiving himself as well as wasting his time as members of the church belong to different political parties and as such have right to vote for any candidate of their choice.

“The Catholic Church says no to any form of political campaign in the church as the duty of the church is to pray to God for a good leader.

“Nigerians irrespective of religious affiliations should join the church in praying fervently so that God will give this country leaders who will rule with the fear of God”, he added.
