The national leadership of the Labour Party, LP, has confirmed the appointment of Kolawole Johnson as acting chairman of the party in Ondo State.
In a letter dated 24th of November, 2014, the LP National Chiarman, Alhaji A.A. Salam, said the appointment was necessary in view of the need to reorganise the party in the state.
The apex body of the party saddled the new leadership in the state with the responsibility of bringing back the party to reckoning after the exit of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko from the party.
The letter read: “Following the carpet crossing of our only Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and our members in the State Assembly, House of Representatives and the Senate as announced by the Governor at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, along with party leaders across the state, it has become imperative for us to rebuild our party in the state having been abandoned and rejected at this critical time by our Governor and his followers.
“In view of the foregoing, you are hereby appointed as the Acting Chairman of the party in the state to co-ordinate and reorganise our party from the ward to the state.
“The responsibility of bringing back our party to reckoning in the state rests squarely on you and your responsibility is enormous especially now that we are preparing for general election.”
Other members of the new State Executive Committee, NWC, also got their official letters of confirmation.
Speaking in Akure, the state acting chairman urged all members of the party to remain steadfast in the new journey of building a stronger platform for all.
He promised to do everything possible to restore the lost glory of the party and regain the confidence of the generality of the people.
Kolawole said that every action that did not emanate from the new leadership was illegal, null, and void and a mere exercise in futility.
According to him, a new guideline would soon be released that would protect the true members of the party against all forms of external conspiracy.
