Liverpool expect to sign Mohamed Salah before the week ends, with the Egyptian winger set to have a medical.
The Anfield club has agreed a fee around £35million with Roma for the 24-year-old, who scored 15 goals and laid on 13 assists in 31 Serie A fixtures.
Salah left Egypt on Tuesday and is likely to undergo his medical at Liverpool’s Melwood base. Personal terms are believed to have been agreed.
It is understood that the deal with Roma includes add-ons that could ultimately make Salah the club’s record signing, eclipsing the £35m spent on Andy Carroll from Newcastle United in January 2011.
Salah’s former club Chelsea will also be due a cut on the sale, which amounts to around £2.7million.
