Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho, could be banned for up to a year, after failing a drugs test.
The France international is under UEFA investigation for breaking doping regulations and was left out of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle in the Premier League.
It is understood that Sakho failed the test following the Reds’ win in the Europa League over Manchester United last month.
Traces of a banned fat-burning substance are believed to have been detected in his sample.
UEFA will now conduct analysis of a “B” sample on Tuesday.
Sakho faces a ban of up to two years if found guilty of any offence – although similar offences have been punished with between six and 12-month penalties.
This will make the 26-year-old unavailable for Liverpool and rule him out of the Euro 2016.
