Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Amuneke has warned Super Eagles defenders to be wary of Leicester City duo of Riyad Mehrez and Islam Slimani, ahead of next month’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against North African side, Algeria in Uyo.
Both players are in fine form for Leicester City this season, scoring goals and creating assists both in the Premier League and Champions League.
The Super Eagles top the group C with three points, having won their opening match 2-1 against Zambia in Ndola while the Desert Foxes managed a 1-1 draw against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Algiers.
The next month fixture in Uyo could determine who progresses among both teams considering the fact that a win for the Super Eagles could put them five points ahead of Algeria.
Amuneke told soccernet, “It’s not yet celebration time for the team considering the fact that our next month opponent (Algeria) are a better team compared to Zambia.
“I am not trying to undermine the Zambian team but then, the Desert Foxes seem to have experienced players who are plying their trade in some of the best leagues in Europe.
“Watching players such as Riyad Mehrez and Islam Slimani gives me a big scare because they are very dangerous and must not be given a chance in the 18-yard box.
“I have no doubt that we have capable defenders in William Paul Ekong and Leon Balogun who can match them strength for strength and in experience.
“The team must always watch every of their moves if they are to win that very match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Besides, we must also take every of our goal scoring chances against Algeria.”
