The Rivers State University, RSU, has urged the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund to extend its interventions to intangible needs of universities such as Optic Fibre for provision of internet that will develop the university system.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Barineme Fakae, who disclosed this recently to a team of journalists monitoring TETFund projects in Rivers State noted that Tetfund’s interventions in higher institutions has prevented public universities from total collapse.
According to him, “TETFund’s intervention in our universities has been commendable and the type of usage we have put into tetfund money has transformed the university system.
“TETFund has invested over 1.5 billion naira in our universities in the last few years out of which a large part has been used for the development of physical infrastructure, there are other several intangible things Tetfund has invested in our schools such as training of lecturers abroad and their presence at international conferences all these has transform our university system tremendously”
Professor Fakae further disclosed that the rise of Rivers State University from 76th position to 12th as one of the top universities in Nigeria was made possible through its foremost e-varsity focus.
His words, “River state university being a foremost e- varsity through our focus on I.T, the university is built with the aim of being in a rallying point for the development of the Niger Delta.
“The university has provided solutions on planning of the town to reduce flooding,” he stated.
