The Governor of Ondo State has been advised to prosecute the monarch of Arigidi-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Yisa Olanipekun for alleged contemptuous act and felony.
One of the contestants to the stool of Zaki of Arigidi Akoko, Tunde Olanipekun made the appeal over the lingering royal tussle in the town.
This is coming on the heels of the purported invitation of Gov. Akeredolu as a guest of honour to the 10th Year Anniversary of Yisa as the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko.
Tunde Olanipekun, who is also from the Irara ruling house as Yisa, maintained that there is no approval of anyone as the Zaki of Arigidi – Akoko, as the case regarding the rightful occupant of the throne is currently at the Supreme Court after lower courts had earlier reversed the ascension of Yayi Olanipekun to the throne.
Speaking through his lawyer, Femi Emodamori, in a letter addressed to the Governor, Tunde further appealed to Akeredolu to stop Yisa from parading himself as the Zaki of Arigidi, adding that such act is criminal and a contempt of court which is capable of triggering violence in the peaceful community.
“From our brief, it is a notorious fact that the purported approval of the sad Yisa Olanipekun as the Zaki of Arigidi by the administration of former Governor Olusegun Agagu, have been nullified by both the Ondo State High Court and the Court of Appeal on the ground that the purported approval was in contempt and violation of an existing court order.
“Sequel to to the court of Appeal judgement, the Ondo State Government has issued a legal advice and directive through the office of the Attorney-General to the appropriate government institutions in the state not to recognize anybody as the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko until the appeal and cross appeals of the parties in the case to the Supreme Court where determined.”
While calling on the Governor to dissociate himself from what he called ignoble public show of impunity, Tunde Olanipekun also added that the monarch should be prosecuted for contemptuous act and felony.
“As it stands today, therefore, there is no approval of anybody as the Zaki of Arigidi in law,” he said.
