Wayne Rooney’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, after it emerged that the striker was not happy with David Moyes’ comments.
The new United boss had said: “Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him. I want as many options as possible.”
Rooney has been at Old Trafford for nine years and over the past season been left disillusioned by his bit-part role in the team, thanks to injuries and fitness problems. However, it became worse for him last season, as Robin van Persie arrived from Arsenal and became the main man.
The new executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, also insisted that there were no plans to open talks with the England international, concerning a contract extension.
Woodward said: “There are no contract renewals that are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not.”
The new developments will alert Jose Mourinho, who openly stated that he likes the striker’s fast and direct style.
