“Rooney is the only player we want to sign this summer” – Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has confirmed that the club is trying to lure Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and claimed it was either they signed the striker or no one else.

The Blues confirmed today that their initial offers for the wantaway striker, was rejected by United, but Mourinho, who was speaking after a 1-0 win over Singha All-Stars XI in a pre-season friendly, made it clear that he has not made offers for any other players, as Rooney is his only target.

The former Real Madrid boss, also confirmed that no Chelsea players were offered to United, as part of their rejected bid. There was speculation that Juan Mata or David Luiz was offered in exchange for the England international.

“I think that this situation is clear – nothing is a secret anymore,” he said.

“The official bid is just about a certain amount of money and doesn’t involve players. Not Luiz not Mata. I don’t know if the bid has been rejected. We feel very happy with our behaviour because it was clean.

“We want the player. We made the bid and now we have nothing more to say.

“We need to respect the player, the club, my colleague David, even my players. The bid is there, it is up to them. Now I work with my players. Now it’s up to Manchester United”

Asked if Chelsea had made any other bids, he replied: “No, and we won’t.”

Asked whether it is now ‘Rooney or bust’, Mourinho said: “yes.”
