Jose Mourinho has admitted that he would like to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, if the striker is made available.

The England international is the subject of interest from the Blues and Arsenal, after it emerged that the 27-year-old had asked Sir Alex Ferguson to leave the club before the end of last season.

Mourinho is hunting for a new forward, after Falcao and Cavani were snapped up by Monaco and PSG respectively.

He said: “Rooney is a player I like very much but I can say no more than that. Being fast and direct, I like that, but he’s a Manchester United player.”

David Moyes has already insisted that his star player will not be sold, amidst suspicion surrounding Rooney’s departure from their Asia Tour yesterday.
