Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney, has sent in a transfer request, asking to leave Manchester United.
Speculations were rife this week, that the England international wanted out, after Ferguson himself announced he was leaving the club and he has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
The manager revealed after the 2-1 win over Swansea, that the former Everton man was keen to leave and that is why he was left out the side on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he has asked for a transfer,” Ferguson told Sky Sports 1.
“I think he wants to think it through in his mind – I think that’s a good idea. We’re not going to let him go.
“I think maybe he is a bit frustrated. He has been taken off once or twice in the past couple of weeks.”
The 27-year-old had previously asked to leave Old Trafford in 2010, before he signed a new five-year contract to stay.
