Wayne Rooney netted his 188th Premier League goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Swansea on Saturday and overtook Andy Cole as the second highest goal scorer in Premier League history.
The England skipper has only scored twice in 16 games before the match, but is now only behind Alan Shearer.
Anthony Martial had given United the lead, before Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled with a header.
Rooney produced a brilliant backheel effort to win the game for under-pressure boss, Louis van Gaal.
Van Gaal revealed after the game: “I’m very pleased for Wayne Rooney and I’m very happy with the performance, and his teammates also paid tribute to the feat.”
Rooney is now 72 goals behind Shearer, who scored 260 times in his 441 appearances in the Premier League.
