The man, Lekan Shone, who allegedly killed his wife, Ronke in Lagos state, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in the state.
Lekan was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder on Friday.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the offence was committed at about 2.30 pm at the accused residence in 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda, on May 5, adding that the accused had beaten his wife Ronke Shonde, 37, to death in their residence.
The prosecutor said the 51-year-old accused after beating up his wife at their residence in Egbeda-Idimu, a Lagos Suburb, absconded to an unknown area before he turned himself in to the police.
Uwadione said the offence contravened Sections 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction attracts life imprisonment.
The accused person however pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending an advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Adelaja adjourned the case till June 24 for further hearing.
