Ronaldo becomes first player to score 100 goals in European competitions

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to reach 100 goals in European competitions, after he scored twice in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Portugal captain came into the match on 98 European goals, with his most recent coming in the 2-2 draw with Dortmund last September.

Ronaldo failed to score in the 5-1 win over Legia Warsaw, the 3-3 draw in the return leg, the 2-1 win at former club Sporting Lisbon, 2-2 draw against Dortmund in December and the 6-2 aggregate win over Napoli in the round of 16.

The 32-year-old ended the drought in the second half at the Allianz Arena.

His first was a volleyed finish from Dani Carvajal’s low cross, before stabbing in from close range through Manuel Neuer’s legs.

Ronaldo has scored 97 of his European goals in the Champions League proper, with another in the qualifiers and two in the European Super Cup.
