Nigeria’s Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has hinted that either Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United) or Dele Alampasu (Cesarense), will start in goal against Algeria in the 2018 World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.
There has been much speculation about who will replace the injured Carl Ikeme against the Desert Warriors and the German has now ruled out Ikechukwu Ezenwa of IfeanyiUbah FC.
Rohr says he has never watched Ezenwa in action and expressed worry about his fitness levels.
“I am confident in all three goalkeepers in camp. Akpeyi is playing regularly and so too Alampasu. I attended the Federation Cup final to see Ezenwa play, but was disappointed he was not played. I’ve never seen him play a game live,” Rohr told the media.
“I maintain I cannot feature players who have stayed six weeks without action. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it is.”
