Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has advised his players to adopt a different style of play at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt.
Rohr issued the warning following Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat to Senegal in their final warm-up match before AFCON kicks off this weekend.
Idrissa Gueye scored the only goal of the game in the first half to hand the Teranga Lions all three points against Rohr’s men.
Rohr played what might be his preferred starting XI at the tournament, but that were unable to salvage anything from the encounter.
Speaking on his team’s performance against Senegal, Rohr told German sports magazine, Kicker: ”The AFCON is operated on with long balls and then pressing, it’s a different style of play, there are more surprise effects.
”It’s nice to play football in the evening in a wonderful country like Egypt, it’s only South Africa, where it can get cold in June.
”I think everything is possible in this group, anyone can beat anyone.”
Nigeria will tackle Burundi in their first Group B opener on 22 June.
