Former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Joe Erico, has claimed that the new Technical Adviser of the team, Gernot Rohr, is only in the country to try his luck.
Rohr has signed a two-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to replace Sunday Oliseh and will take charge of this weekend’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.
Erico has advised the German, to pick the best players if he hopes to succeed with the national team.
“All I want Rohr to do is to try his luck and do it well; he should make sure he gets the right players to play for him and the nation. He is an expatriate, and as you know we love expatriate coaches, may be because they are better than the indigenous coaches. So he should do the magic,” Erico said.
“As you know, every coach knows what he needs when he wants to work. I will advise him to get the right players and the right atmosphere to work with. The welfare of the players is key, as you know, expatriates do not joke with players’ welfare. He should be ready also to work very well with the management if wants to succeed.”
