Robbers spray pepper on motorcyclist’s eyes, cart away belongings

Two suspects, Moses Ojelade and Wasiu Lambo, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly dispossessing an unsuspecting victim of his motorcycle after spraying pepper on his face.

The suspected armed robbers, who specialized in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint, were arrested at the weekend on Ofada- Mowe Road.

The duo was said to have stopped their victim, Mr. David Sunday, a motorcyclist, and pretended to be genuine passengers, after which, they got on the motorcycle and when they got to a secluded part of the road, they sprayed pepper on his face, collected his motorcycle and other belongings, leaving him stranded.

Confirming the incident on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said “The suspects, who are former convicts, boarded the motorcycle and, along the road, they sprayed grinded dry pepper in the face of the motorcyclist and dispossessed him of his motorcycle.

“The victim raised the alarm and policemen attached to Owode-Egba Division who were on routine patrol led by their Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Sheu Alao, raced to the scene and were able to arrest one of the suspects, Moses Ojelade.

“His arrest led to the arrest of his accomplice, Wasiu Lambo.

“Investigation into the matter has revealed that the suspects recently came out of prison and they had earlier robbed and killed Mr. Oroke Chukwuma on October 6 at Ofada area.

“The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad, FSARS, for discrete investigation,” the PPRO stated.
