Robbers kill soldier, two others in Benue state.


berIn an ambush on Tuesday night, a gang of robbers said to be about 10 in number, killed three people, amongs whom were one Sunday Lukas, a soldier, in the 72 Airborne Barracks, North Bank, Makurdi.

Lucas was in the State Joint Patrol team, popularly Known as Operation Zenda, along the Otukpo-Makurdi road, while the other two victims-Aondoaver Iorpuu and Aondofa Tavaan -were businessmen based in Aliade, Gwer Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that Aondoaver and Aondofa, were travelling in a white Toyota bus, marked MKD 463 AE when they ran into a roadblock around the Mase-Jato village, which they suspected was mounted by robbers.

A source told DailyPost that when they noticed the development, the businessmen turned back and informed the Joint Patrol Team of their discovery.

It was learnt that Lukas followed them to the scene and fired several shots into the air to scare away the robbers.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the soldier and the two friends unknowingly found themselves between the bandits, who had divided their ranks into two. The criminals were said to have opened several shots at them, killing the three of them on the spot.

Their remains were deposited at the St. Vincent Hospital, Aliade.Thereafter, the corpse of Lukas was later transferred by his colleagues, led by Major Mohammed and taken to the 72 Airborne barracks.

Daniel Ezeala, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the killings, saying that the police was investigating the matter.
